If the baby is born in the UK, it is automatically a British citizen, because both parents are British citizens. This holds even though Jeffrey and Stephanie are British by descent. The plan depends on three things: Stephanie flying in before the airline cutoff, registering the birth quickly, and the baby's British passport arriving before they fly home.

    Biggest risk: the passport countersignatory. Someone who lives in the UK, holds a British or Irish passport, has known Jeffrey or Stephanie for at least 2 years, and isn't a relative has to confirm the application. Without one, getting the passport is hard, and the baby has no other document to leave the UK on.
